Questions to ask your vehicle transport company:
The chances are that if you are looking at transporting a vehicle, you wouldn’t have done it before. Vehicle transport can be a scary and daunting experience which requires a lot of prior research. You need to ask prospective car transport companies certain questions to ensure that they are right for your needs. Make sure they are reputable, able to do what you want them to, and have a vehicle transport warranty. Ask the following questions to ensure you have a good experience:
What happens if your car gets damaged?
You need to be sure that you understand the company’s policies and how much liability they have. Make sure that your car is inspected when you deliver it to the carrier or if you’re having it picked up at your designated address and go over it with a company member. When the car is delivered, make sure that it is looked over and inspected again and signed off before accepting delivery. Usually if your car is damaged during transit it will be covered by the company’s transport warranty, but you need to ask the question before committing to them.
How long will shipping take?
You need to make sure that your car can be delivered within the time-frame that you need. Remember that delivery time quotes aren’t usually guarantees, as unforeseen circumstances can occur. Ask the company what their delivery time-frame is and when they think a likely delivery date is.
What documents/car papers do you need?
If you’re transporting a car on behalf of a friend or family member, you may be required to complete a delegate authority form prior to carrier accepting the movement. You will also be required to provide a scanned copy of your drivers’ license and proof of purchase if the vehicle is being picked up & delivered to you from an online vehicle auction.
How much will it cost?
This is pretty self-explanatory, but an important question none the less. Asking this question will allow you to compare different companies and choose the one which fits in best with your budget and needs.
Do they offer open or enclosed transport?
Open transport means that your vehicle will be exposed to the elements during transport, but will probably be cheaper. Enclosed transport may be more expensive, but will give decent protection to more valuable vehicles that need to be looked after. Asking these questions will allow you to choose the best option for you.
